Women’s Health Services to close Jan. 19; reopen in new space Jan. 22
Women’s Health Services will close Friday, Jan. 19 to accommodate a location change to the third floor of Upstate Health Care Center, across from the Perinatal Center. The move will consolidate OB/GYN services to the third floor and double to Women’s Health Services clinical space to accommodate expanding volume. The clinic will reopen Jan. 22 in suite 3073. All phone and fax numbers remain the same.

Upstate Innovation Day is Jan. 23
Upstate Innovation Day will be held Jan. 23 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the CNY Biotech Accelerator Theater, 841 E. Fayette St., Syracuse. The Pharmaceutical, Biologic and Medical Device Research and Commercialization—including Upstate’s CNY Biotech Accelerator Medical Device Innovation Challenge (MDIC)—Pitch Event will offer a $5,000 pitch award. World Cancer Day is Feb. 5

World Cancer Day is an international initiative to raise awareness of cancer in a positive and inspiring way. Upstate Foundation Valentine Ball for All is Feb. 7
The Upstate Foundation and Salt City Road Warriors will host the Valentine Ball for All Wednesday, Feb. 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse. The inclusive format replaces the Father Daughter Valentine Ball, and is open to any child or children age 3 and up and their parent(s), guardian or caregiver. The event will offer entertainment, special guests, face painting, photo booths, a craft project, gifts and more. Proceeds will benefit the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Campaign. Author of the Doctors Blackwell to speak at Elizabeth Blackwell Day Feb. 7.
Janice P. Nimura, author of The Doctors Blackwell, will celebrate Elizabeth Blackwell Day at Upstate Medical University Wednesday, Feb. 7 at noon in the Ninth Floor Auditorium of Weiskotten Hall. The event is open to the public.
Nimura will discuss her book, The Doctors Blackwell, which tells of the tenacity and vision of sisters, Elizabeth and Emily, who became pioneering physicians. Elizabeth Blackwell earned her medical degree in 1849 from what is now Upstate Medical University becoming the first woman physician in the United States; Emily received her medical degree in 1854 from what is now Case Western Reserve University. The Doctors Blackwell was a New York Times bestseller and a finalist for the 2022 Pulitzer Prize in biography. This year, 2024, marks the 175 anniversary of Elizabeth Blackwell receiving her MD from what is now Upstate. Upstate Student National Medical Association in collaboration with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will host the annual Black History Month Gala Feb. 24 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Semi-formal attire is requested. Student admission is $40 and general admission is $75. Proceeds will fund student scholarships. Upstate Transplant Center to relocate
Upstate Transplant Center will relocate to Upstate Specialty Services at Harrison Center, Suite A, 550 Harrison Street. The location change is to better serve patients. Hope Café opens new locations at Upstate
The Hope Café coffee shop is now open in the retail area of the Academic Building Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The café serves coffee, lattes, breakfast sandwiches, and lunch items to go.
Hope Café is also open on the ninth floor of Weiskotten Hall Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This location offers homemade meals each day, including Peruvian style rice or quinoa, veggies, a variety of Peruvian and Latin-inspired meats, fried chicken, and more.
