Joey’s Wish will host a Putt Putt weekend Aug. 19 and 20

Joey’s Wish will host a Putt Putt weekend Aug. 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to midnight at Fairmount Glen’s putt putt golf course. All proceeds support research to fight addiction and 10 percent of ticket sales will be donated to Joey’s Wish Fund, held at the Upstate Foundation. Tickets are $25 each and include two hours of putt putt and a free ice cream. Joey’s Wish supports research to aid in ending addiction. We Care Wednesday at the Syracuse Mets is Aug. 23 

The Upstate Foundation has partnered with the Syracuse Mets for the We Care Wednesday Game vs. the Buffalo Bisons Aug. 23 at NBT Bank Stadium. Making Strides team captain meeting is Aug. 29

Deadline for Emerging Leaders United scholarship applications is Sep. 1

Upstate employees are welcome to apply for a scholarship for Upstate’s chapter of Emerging Leaders United, an affinity group with United Way of Central New York. Participants of the Emerging Leaders program will represent Upstate Medical University and have the opportunity to attend leadership and community education programs, volunteer events, and network with leaders from Syracuse businesses. Emerging Leaders are required to fulfill 16 hours of volunteer service from September 2023 to September 2024. Clark Burn Center’s Trivia Night will be held Thursday, Sept. 28 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Crazy Daisies Flowers and Garden Café, 4693 Kasson Rd., Syracuse. The Informed Patient podcast 

The Informed Patient podcast recently featured interviews about a vaccine trial, kids’ bone injuries and barriers to children getting their prescriptions filled after emergency room visits.

• A vaccine trial to prevent a congenital virus that can cause problems for newborns – cytomegalovirus, or CMV -- is explained by Joe Domachowske, MD, a pediatric infectious disease specialist. Women of childbearing age are sought for the trial.
• How fractures and other bone and joint problems in children are treated is discussed by Rahin Shariar, MD, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon.
• How juvenile patients do or don’t get their prescription medicines after ER visits is addressed by pediatrics chief Gregory Conners, MD, executive director of the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.
