Gift shop hours have changed

Upstate University Hospital’s gift shop has changed hours and will close one hour earlier on weekends. New hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Yoga for All is June 12, 14, 21, 24

The Yoga for All schedule is as follows:

  • June 12 from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. in 2151/2153 Nappi Wellness Institute
  • June 14 from 8 to 8:45 a.m. in the Performance Center at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital
  • June 21 from 2:15 to 2:40 p.m. in Classroom A/B at Community
  • June 24 from 12:30 to 1 p.m. virtual offering

Yoga for All is facilitated by Upstate clinicians trained in Trauma Adapted Yoga, a form of yoga based on trauma research, evidence-based yoga therapy and body-based methods with gentle exercises for self-management of common symptoms and reactions. Center for Philosophy, Psychology, and Psychiatry seminar is June 13

Carl Elliott, MD, PhD, University of Minnesota, will present Why They Blow the Whistle Thursday, June 13 at 5 p.m. on the second floor of 713 Harrison St. The presentation will also be available via Zoom. Health Literacy in Focus is June 14

The Central New York Library Resources Council and the Upstate Health Sciences Library will host Health Literacy in Focus Friday, June 14 via Zoom. The event features a book talk with Julia Soplop, author of Information Crisis: How a Better Understanding of Science Can Help Us Face the Greatest Problems of Our Time. The first 200 registrants will receive a free copy of Information Crisis. The event also includes the continuing education program 4 Tools for Assessing Health Education Materials, with educator Molly Knapp. Eligible attendees will receive free MLA credit for the session. HealthLink on getting fit for walking or running is June 17

A HealthLink seminar on getting fit for walking or running will be held Monday, June 17 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. Meredith Albert, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS, will discuss how to get fit for walking or running, safe progressions, injury prevention, and how to stick with your exercise plan. Moderna Covid-19 trial seeks pediatric patients

Lenord Weiner, MD, and his team seek pediatric patients six months of age and younger who have or have not been previously vaccinated with a Covid vaccine. All participants will receive the Moderna mRNA 1273.815 vaccine. There is no placebo being used in this trial. NYSHIP special option transfer and special enrollment periods for the Productivity Enhancement Program (PEP) open now

Due to recently ratified contracts between New York state and the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA), there will be a Productivity Enhanced Program (PEP) special enrollment period. PEP for 2024 allows eligible full- and part-time NYSCOPBA-represented employees to exchange previously accrued annual and/or personal leave in return for a credit to be applied toward the employee share of their NYSHIP premium on a biweekly basis. Affected employees will be sent an email containing more information. To elect PEP for 2024, applications must be received between May 28 and June 28.

There will be NYSHIP rate changes for these groups effective July 1. As a result, there will be a special option transfer period, when affected employees may make changes to their NYSHIP coverage. To make changes to your NYSHIP coverage, sign and submit a PS-404 Health Insurance Transaction Form to the Benefits office. Requests must be made between May 28 and June 28. Submit all questions and forms to [email protected].

Nellie Hurley scholarship applications

Advocates for Upstate is accepting Nellie Hurley scholarship applications through June 28. To be eligible, applicants must have been employed by Upstate or active as an Upstate volunteer for a minimum of six months prior to the application deadline. Scholarships, for undergraduate studies only, in health-related fields at accredited institutions, are for fall semester 2024. Workplace violence survey is available online

Upstate has partnered with healthcare facilities across CNY to create the Respect and Heal campaign, addressing workplace violence in our institutions. A survey to track and trend staff needs and ensure safety events are accurately reported for optimization of outcomes is now open online.
