Headache accounts for 1 in 10 primary care visits, and is one of the most common reasons for seeing a neurologist.

SUNY Upstate Medical University recognized the need for a dedicated comprehensive headache center to provide the optimum care for headache patients in our community. Upstate Headache Center is a state-of-art facility, specifically designed and built in keeping with the special needs of our patients.

Upstate Headache Center provides comprehensive care for patients with head and face pain. We utilize a multi-disciplinary approach to ensure we address all aspects of head and face pain; neurological, musculoskeletal and psychological.

Referrals

Upstate Headache Center accepts referrals from primary care physicians and other providers. To expedite referral review, please including main pain problem, medical history, present medications, previous work-up and insurance/contact information

Services Provided

  • Evaluation by neurologists specialized in headache and pain management
  • Infusion services for certain headache medications that are administered via veins whether on routine basis, such as Eptinezumab (Vyepti ®) or for urgent rescue of severe headaches such Dihydroergotamine (DHE), Methyl-prednisolone, Magnesium infusions and others.
  • OnabotuminiumtoxinA (Botox®) injections for chronic migraine
  • Cranial blocks such as occipital nerve blocks
  • Cranial nerve stimulation such as occipital nerve stimulators
  • Neck blocks such as cervical facet injections, radiofrequency ablation, cervical epidural injections and trigger point injections.
