How a COVID-19 vaccine could be developed

What goes into developing a COVID-19 vaccine? A physician scientist who specializes in infectious disease and vaccine development explains the process of creating a vaccine -- and how that process is being safely accelerated during the current pandemic. Stephen Thomas, MD, also addresses the concept of herd immunity and goes over the different types of vaccines and how they’re designed to work. He is a professor of medicine and of microbiology and immunology at Upstate and leads the department of infectious disease. Click here for a recent magazine column he wrote about the current effort to create a COVID-19 vaccine.
