Researchers seek better understanding of frontotemporal dementia, which tends to strike at a younger age than Alzheimer's
Frontotemporal dementia is the second most prevalent type of dementia, after Alzheimer's disease. Like Alzheimer's, it has no cure, and researchers are still trying to understand what causes it. Hannah Phillips is a neuroscience doctoral student working under the supervision of Wei-Dong Yao, PhD, in the psychiatry and behavioral sciences department at Upstate. Phillips explains her research into this dementia, known as FTD, which is difficult to diagnose and typically strikes people at a younger age than Alzheimer's does.
