Healthy babies can be born to mothers who are diagnosed and treated for cancer during pregnancy, says Molly Brewer, DVM, MD. She was already a veterinarian when she attended medical school at Upstate Medical University. Today she is a gynecologic oncologist in Connecticut who was invited back to Syracuse to lecture at her alma mater. She explains how the timing of any cancer treatment can determine how a developing baby is affected, and how some cancers can be treated after the baby is born.
