“Developmental Trajectories of Mental Illness: Dopaminergic Pathways and Adult Behavior”

Minae Niwa, Ph.D.
Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
Program in Molecular Psychiatry
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
In this presentation, Dr. Niwa will address the mechanisms where by dopaminergic neurons in the brain are affected by exogenous or endogenous insults, including genetic mutations and psychological stress, using rodent models. In particular, she will demonstrate the importance of neuroendocrinological mechanisms that link genetic and environmental factors to functional abnormalities of dopaminergic neurons and accompanying behavioral changes in rodent models relevant for mental illness.
