Psychiatry Grand Rounds
(Grand Rounds)
Language in Threat Assessment
Cecilia Leonard, M.D., Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, SUNY Upstate Medical University and Dan Cotoman, M.D., Adult Psychiatrist, VA, Charlotte, N.C.
The speakers will use the cases of Mass murder perpetrated by Jared Loughner in Arizona, and by Anders Breivik in Norway, to launch a discussion about language in threat assessment. The writings in Loughner's blog and Breivik's online manifesto give clues about likelihood of violence. Ample time would be provided for audience discussion about the role of psychiatrists in public education about risk assessment.
Dr.'s Leonard and Cotoman do not have financial relationships with commerical interests.
