Free Will in the Brain: Reflections on Searle's Ideas About Freedom and Neurobiology

Speaker: Eric Griez, MA, MD, PhD, Professor of Experimental Psychiatry, Maastricht University, the Netherlands, Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry, SUNY Upstate Medical University, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Master of Affective Neuroscience, Universities of Maastricht and Florence, Italy

Discussant: Paul Prescott, PhD, Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy, Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY

Dr. Griez will present the view of the philosopher John Searle about the problem of free agency in relation to the deterministic world of neurobiology, and examine the possibility of human free choice, and hence of (cognitive) psychotherapy in regard to the development of neurosciences.
