Specialty Nursing Governance
Purpose
The purpose of the "Specialty" nursing governance team is to bring like Nursing Units together
to make decisions that affect their practice.
Teams:
Goals
- Engage and empower nursing staff in the development and implementation of initiatives that improve clinical quality care and patient outcomes
- Identify patient care issues and develop standards of practice and process improvements to address issues.
- Analyze current practice and seek opportunities to improve patient outcomes and patient satisfaction.
- Modify and develop nursing policies as necessary, identify stakeholders and lead units for quarterly policy reviews.
- Review current policies in an efficient and effective manner.
- Incorporate evidence based practice into policy review and development.
- Promote continuing education of nursing personnel in topics and areas relevant to the specialty practice.
- Improve retention of nursing personnel by involving then in decisions that will affect their practice.
- Improve retention of nursing personnel by seeking their input for recognition and retention strategies to be implemented in the specialty.
- Communicate activity and project status to all nursing staff so that there is a sharing of ideas, successes, barrier identification and problem resolution that will enhance knowledge and minimize duplicative efforts.
