Nursing Job Shadow Day Program

SUNY Upstate Medical University is pleased to offer students a chance to explore nursing in a dynamic clinical setting.

Each Shadow Day participant will be paired one-on-one with a health care professional in one of the following nursing fields:

• Ambulatory Surgery & Procedures - Outpatient Procedures
• Cardiovascular Services - Heart and Blood Vessels Conditions
• Emergency Services
• Medicine Services
• Kidney and Lung Related Conditions
• Neuroscience Services - Brain and Spinal Cord Conditions
• Orthopedics - Bone Related Conditions, Pediatrics Services - Infant & Child Related Conditions
• Peri-Operative Services - before, during and after surgery.
• Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation - helps children and adult broken bodies master their new lives.

Participants will interact with the professionals as they perform their normal daily activities. After the job shadowing, participants will attend an afternoon reception to share their experiences and meet Upstate faculty and students.

Due to the popularity of this event, we are no longer accepting any additional applications for the March and May 2009 Nursing Shadow Days.

We will begin accepting applications for our November Shadow Day in September of 2009.

Additional Shadow Days will be offered in January, March and May 2010.

• Assumption of Risk Release Form
• Upstate Medical University Confidentiality Agreement
• Upstate Medical University Detailed Health Statement (required for a visit of more than 3 days)
• Upstate Medical University Short Term Health Statement (required for a visit of less than 3 days)
• Signed HIPAA Privacy Rule Education Completion Certificate (Must first complete HIPAA Self Study presentation).
