Inpatient Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation
The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department offers comprehensive services to patients that have sustained a spinal cord injury.
Services are offered on
the 2nd floor of University Hospital
in the Rehabilitation Center.
A spinal cord injury may occur as a results of a motor vehicle accident, fall, gunshot, sports related injury or other trauma. Our physicians have vast knowledge in the care of individuals with complete or incomplete injuries. Our experienced team works with patients and families to meet acute rehabilitation goals in a short amount of time, including maximizing recovery and general health, providing education about all aspects of injury and care and working toward functional independence with tasks or daily living.
We work with patients and families early in the rehabilitation process to identify needs and potential barriers to discharge and to develop a safe and appropriate discharge plan. While spinal cord injury often occurs suddenly and its effects are life changing, our team works with patients and families to develop the emotional and functional skills that can start the process of resuming a full and satisfying life.
