Center for Genetic Communicative Disorders

It is now recognized that nearly all human disorders have some genetic component.

Impairments of speech, language, and hearing are no different and the genetic and hereditary components of disorders of communication are just now beginning to receive some attention.

The Center for Genetic Communicative Disorders is a unique clinical service designed to bring the most cutting-edge technology and expertise to the assessment of children and adults who have previously unexplained disorders of speech, language, or hearing.

Headed by Dr. Robert J. Shprintzen, the Center utilizes an interdisciplinary model to make sure that all appropriate means of assessment are employed to determine the primary cause of communicative disorders and to determine the best way to treat them. Dr. Shprintzen is the author of three text books focusing on genetics and communication impairment and he is widely recognized as one of the leading experts in this field worldwide.
