Our mammography and ultrasound technicians are trained specifically in breast imaging. Our dedicated clinical breast radiologists provide immediate, on-site evaluation of the mammogram. When necessary, additional images are taken or ultrasound performed to evaluate possible abnormalities.
Imaging at University Hospital also provides dedicated breast MRI testing when necessary. MRI of the breast has been shown to have certain advantages over mammography in detecting many breast cancers, especially in women with dense breast tissue.
The Radiology Department at University Hospital is enrolling patients in several studies evaluating more sophisticated and sensitive ways to image the breast. Participation in these studies helps us learn more about the best imaging techniques to find cancer and gives patients the opportunity to have these sophisticated tests at no charge.
