Department of Surgery at Upstate - Residency Programs

Academics

The Department of Surgery fulfills its educational mission in many ways. Third year medical students are immersed in the activities of our surgical services during a seven week clerkship. Fourth year students may elect to participate in the one of eleven advanced rotations in general surgery and associated specialties.

Our surgical residency is fully accredited and graduates five chief residents per year. Numerous affiliations with community surgeons allows the residents to gain exposure to a huge variety of common and complex cases that prepares them for a surgical careers and makes them highly competitive for continuing fellowships.

Additionally, our faculty is deeply committed to outreach education programs that contribute significantly to the Continuing Medical Education activities of the medical school and hospital. We are proud of our educational tradition that has been successful at all levels.
