What is the mindful living and stress reduction program?

The MLSR program emphasizes the practice of mindfulness and meditation to attain inner peace and stability, even in the midst of difficult times.

Mindfulness training evokes a moment to moment awareness allowing us to see our lives more clearly, accept reality and make conscious and appropriate decisions in response to what arises.

The course includes:

  • Telephone orientation interview
  • Eight 2-hour weekly sessions
  • One all-day retreat
  • Textbook, CD's, and readings
  • Cost is $300.00

The MLSR program is taught at Marley Education Center in the spring and fall. Please contact Pauline Cecere, LCSW at 315 655-3066 for dates.

What does MLSR mean for me?

Attending the MLSR program is a way for you to do something for yourself that no one else can do for you. People who just want to handle stress more effectively as well as those who suffer from a wide range of physical and emotional challenges can benefit from the program.

Prior participants in this program discovered that mindfulness could improve their lives while coping with conditions such as:

  • Life transitions
  • Heart disease
  • Chronic pain
  • Irritable bowel disorders
  • High blood pressure
  • Anxiety
  • Headaches
  • Job or family stress
  • Type A behavior
  • Chronic fatigue

Who teaches the program?

The program is taught by Pauline Cecere, LCSW. Ms. Cecere has had extensive experience in meditation and has taught in various Central New York locations. Ms. Cecere is a psychotherapist in private practice in Cazenovia, and is on the faculty of the Department of Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University.

Is the program effective?

Most of the people who complete the Stress Reducion Program report significant physical and psychological benefits. People experience fewer medical symptoms. People with chronic pain experience a reduction in pain levels and/or an improvement in their ability to cope with any pain. Anxiety generally decreases dramatically, while the ability to solve problems improves. Participants also report a greater ability to relax, more energy and enthusiasm for life, improved self-esteem, increased confidence, and the ability to cope with the stressors of life more effectively. Current medical research supports the claimed benefits of mindfulness mediation.
