Committee for the Humane Use
of Animals (CHUA)
At the SUNY Upstate Medical University, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee goes by the name of CHUA, which is the acronym for the Committee for the Humane Use of Animals.
As required by the Animal Welfare Act, Public Health Service Guidelines and New York State regulations, any investigator planning to use live vertebrate animals for research or education must secure prior approval of an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
Committee Members
Members of this committee include: Chair, basic scientists, clinicians, veterinarians, community members.
The committee reports to the Vice President for Research, and is responsible for evaluating the care and use of all animals at Upstate Medical University.
