Research Abstract
Dr. Neilen is Associate Professor of Bioethics and Humanities. She chairs CBH's university-wide Bruce Dearing Writing Award and serves as Editor of Upstate's literary journal, The Healing Muse. Winner of the President's Award for Excellence in Affirmative Action (2000), Dr. Neilen teaches a variety of courses including Medicine in Literature and Film, AIDS in American Literature, and Creative Writing for Clinicians.
Her scholarly interests include cultural diversity and access to health care, creative writing's possible implications for clinical practice as well as studies in contemporary literature. Her own scholarly and creative writings appear in The Encyclopedia for American Literature, Academic Medicine, North Dakota Quarterly, The Rambler, and two anthologies, At Our Core and Out of Line, among others.
