<CustomField_UpstateOnline_HomeImage> SUNY Upstate Medical University will award 322 degrees to graduates of the Colleges of Graduate Studies, Health Professions, Medicine, and Nursing at Commencement May 18, at 1 p.m. in the Crouse Hinds Theatre of the John H. Mulroy Civic Center, Syracuse. Included in the graduating class are 141 newly minted physicians, 51 nurses, 99 allied health professionals and 31 scientists. Former U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D., and philanthropist Jules Setnor, M.D., who provided the naming gift for the Setnor Academic Building, will address graduates and earn honorary degrees.

Two students win SUNY’s highest honor
Benjamin Bert and Nicole Flaherty are winners of the 2008 SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence, presented annually to students who earn a grade point average of 3.78 or higher and who make significant contributions to their campus or local community.

SUNY Upstate offers new nursing practitioner program in family psychiatric mental health
The new nurse practitioner program in mental health will bring mental health care to regions of rural New York where it is nearly non-existent.

Recently discovered photographs shed light on medical students in Syracuse in the 1880s
Twenty-five photos, lost for nearly 60 years, have been discovered highlighting the medical class of 1885 in a new exhibition now open at the SUNY Upstate’s Health Sciences Library.
