The International Student Advisor, assists accepted students in obtaining all of the required documentation to study at SUNY Upstate Medical University.
College of Health Professions
In addition to the materials required of all applicants, international students whose first language is not English must submit the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report. International students who have completed all or part of their education abroad are required to have a course-by-course educational credential evaluation completed by an approved agency prior to the application deadline.
College of Graduate Studies

It is strongly recommended that international students residing abroad contact the Office of Graduate Studies for application material and further information regarding admissions procedures 12 months prior to the date of anticipated matriculation. In addition to the materials required of all applicants, international students must also submit:
- Official copy of the Text of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score. The institution code # is 2547.
- Evidence of ability to speak English, for example, by taking the Test of Spoken English (TSE).
International students are financially responsible for their tuition, fees and living expenses while enrolled at Upstate Medical University. International students should be aware that financial aid is limited and difficult to obtain. Further, it should be understood that Upstate Medical University cannot co-sign for any loans.
Prior to enrollment, international students must indicate their understanding of this financial commitment which will then be confirmed via the I-20 application process. Note: Some programs of study at Upstate Medical University offer stipends and tuition waivers. These conditions will be considered throughout the process.
