Neurological Emergencies—Pituitary Apoplexy

What is going on?

This story sounds a lot like subarachnoid hemorrhage (see conditions list), doesn't it? But there are a couple of important differences noted (this time) on physical examination:

  • he has markedly decreased vision
  • he has significant cranial nerve deficits
  • he is hypotensive

These three physical examination findings distinguish pituitary apoplexy from SAH.
