Injuries to athletes include sprains, strains, overuse injuries and fractures and can result in missed practice time or the inability to compete in games. Whether you are a high school or collegiate athlete, a youth just learning a sport, or a recreational/weekend athlete, injuries are a common occurrence.

What you Should Expect from your Therapy

The physical therapists in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department Sports Program offer a comprehensive examination focused on returning you to competition as quickly and safely as possible. Recovery from an injury requires the athlete to first restore their ability to perform daily activities prior to returning to athletic movements and sport specific activities.

Treatment may include:

  • Strengthening exercises
  • Stretching
  • Supportive taping
  • Aquatic therapy
  • Modalities for controlling pain and inflammation

Your rehabilitation will include education on prevention of re-injury and performance improvement.

A physician's referral is required for examination and treatment within this program.
