Evaluation of Infertile Couples
Infertility comes as a surprise to most couples. It is important to realize that infertility is more than just a physical condition. It involves many emotional and social issues as well. However, approximately 10% to 15% of couples are confronted with infertility, that means more then six million couples in the United States, who are of reproductive age, are affected by the inability to conceive naturally.
Our reproductive endocrinologists will review the various factors involved in infertility and the proper systemic evaluation necessary to arrive at a diagnosis and plan of management.
Four Main Factors Leading to Infertility
- Ovulation factor
- Uterine factor
- Tubal factor
- Male factor
- Combination of one or more factors
- Idiopathic (the cause is unknown and in these cases we use various methodologies to find out about immunologic factors and pelvic disease)
In order to facilitate the evaluation, we always interview the couple to get feedback from both at the same time. We review all prior medical records to aid in our diagnostic and treatment plans and we encourage inquiry and questions by our patients to clarify data in the media that is often misunderstood.
