Farneti brings 22 years of health care experience to the position, most recently serving as director of Patient Care Services for Carolinas Medical Center Mercy in Charlotte, NC. Originally from Syracuse, Farneti worked for 18 years at Community General Hospital, first as a bedside nurse in critical care, and advanced to manager of the intensive care unit and telemetry. She progressed to a nurse practitioner position, covering all areas of the hospital. She earned her nursing degree at Onondaga Community College and completed her BS and MS degrees at Upstate. Farneti orchestrates nursing in St. Joe's Surgical and Medical ICU's, the two Cardiac Telemetry floors, Access Units and Endoscopy. The surgical intensive care unit cares for 15 to 21 patients a day with a large population of cardiac surgery patients. The busy telemetry units have a census of 35 to 40 cardiac patients a day. The Access Units and Endoscopy perform outpatient endoscopies, receive post-cardiac catheterizations/angioplasties, post-interventional radiology, outpatient transfusions as well as same-day surgeries and preparation of surgical patients for the OR. "My role is to assure the managers and staff have the tools they need to care for their patients," explains Farneti. Hospital nursing is a "constantly changing continuum. I round two or three times a week to introduce and maintain open communication with the staff and managers." She also works on nurse recruitment with the managers. "I'm thankful to be back and at St. Joseph's Hospital. They have a great working team here and I'm glad to be part of its family." |
