The Psychiatric Unit at the Community Campus is located on the 5th floor. Our unit has 25 inpatient beds for both involuntary and voluntary patients 18 years of age and older. The nurses provide treatment to a variety of psychiatric and substance abuse/dependency disorders.
While such problems are the primary reason for admission, many patients have additional medical needs. Our reputation of the psychiatric unit brings referrals from all over Central NY for patients with complex diagnostic and management problems.
Patients are offered an individualized interdisciplinary plan of care consisting of individual and group psychotherapies, medications, electroconvulsive therapy with a strong emphasis on skill development through psycho-educational programming. Other services provided are Alcoholics Anonymous, Pastoral care, smoking cessation, health and fitness, medication management, and other group therapies.
Each patient works with the interdisciplinary team to increase skills and prevent relapse. The professional team consists of psychiatrists, social workers, psychiatric nurse practitioners, medical nurse practitioners, certified therapeutic recreation specialists, and mental health therapy aides.
