All new graduate registered nurses are required to participate in Nurse Residency at Upstate University Hospital.
Nurse Residency is dedicated to helping newly graduated registered nurses make a comfortable transition from student to competent professional. Residency provides a supportive environment which allows new nurses to gain the competence and confidence needed to be an integral part of the Upstate team.
Nurse residents meet once a month for 12 months along with other members of their cohort. You will benefit from sessions that address the drivers of our PATIENTSfirst! Innovative Care Model. This is accomplished using various strategies such as:
- Open and small group discussions
- Didactic clinical content with experts
- Hands-on experience including the use of our simulation lab
- Professional development exercises
Applicants must be graduating from an NLN or CCNE accredited RN degree program. Preference will be given to BSN degree applicants. You will be able to go through the application and interview process prior to graduating, however, you will be required to obtain a New York State RN license before you may start working.
