College of Nursing is awarded $44,000 for scholarships
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The College of Nursing at SUNY Upstate Medical University has been awarded $44,000 from the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) to provide scholarships for nurses pursuing their advanced degrees.
HRSA is a program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services designed to develop a culturally competent and diverse workforce.
“This support from HRSA is much needed and very much appreciated,” said Elvira Szigeti, Ph.D., R.N., dean of the College of Nursing. “Scholarship support, such as this, makes it more practical-and economical-for nurses to advance their education and further their understanding of nursing and nursing issues.
Szigeti said the amount of each scholarship would depend on how many applications are funded.
SUNY Upstate’s College of Nursing enrolls approximately 225 students and offers bachelor’s, master’s and post-master’s advanced certificates.
