Radiothon for Kids benefiting Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital set for Sept. 16, 17

SYRACUSE, N.Y.-- The 13th Annual Radiothon for Kids benefiting Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital will broadcast live from the first floor lobby of Upstate University Hospital’s Downtown Campus Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 16 and 17.

The Upstate Foundation is partnering with iHeart Media for this annual fundraiser, which supports a plethora of funds and programs that directly impact pediatric services at the hospital. To date, Radiothon for Kids has raised nearly $1 million to support new equipment, comfort items, distraction toys, support for specific family needs, materials and staff for the Family Resource Center, Safe Kids Upstate NY and children’s hospital programs, including research, educational training and the Child Life Program.

“When we broadcast for Radiothon it gives the community a glimpse inside the hospital. It shows people the kind of incredible work that is done here to heal sick and injured kids and help families,” said Toni Gary of The Upstate Foundation. “This event lets our patients tell their stories, so that is powerful for everyone involved. Listeners get a chance to hear from the people who actually lived through those experiences.”

The Radiothon for Kids will have a new home base for the live broadcast this year: the first floor lobby of Upstate University Hospital Downtown Campus. Patients and visitors will be able to see the phone banks and live broadcast happening, including radio personalities conducting interviews with patients, family members and Upstate leadership, as they enter the hospital. John McCabe, MD, chief executive officer of Upstate University Hospital; Thomas Welch, MD, chief medical officer of Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital and Richard Cantor, MD, director of the Pediatric Emergency Department, will all share their experiences in interviews with the radio hosts.

Radiothon for Kids will air from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Syracuse iHeart Radio stations: Y94 FM, WSYR Radio, Hot 107.9, B104.7, and Power620.

Donations can be made online now and throughout Radiothon by visiting Radiothon for Kids or iHeart Media stations.
