Gregory L. Eastwood, M.D., announces he has accepted the position as interim president at Case Western Reserve University
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In an open letter to the SUNY Upstate Medical University community, SUNY Upstate President Gregory L. Eastwood, M.D., announced today that he has accepted the position as interim president of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, effective June 2.
Eastwood earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1966 and currently sits on its Board of Trustees.
The search for a successor to Eastwood at SUNY Upstate is already under way. Last September, Eastwood announced his intention to step down as president in 2006. A presidential search committee has been in place and is actively recruiting candidates to succeed Eastwood as president.
Below is Eastwood’s letter the SUNY Upstate community:
To the People of SUNY Upstate Medical University:
The reason for this letter is to inform you that I have accepted the position of interim president at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, effective June 2.
I feel honored to have been asked to do this at a critical time for Case Western Reserve University. I have a strong affection for the university: I earned my medical degree there in 1966, have been an active alumnus, and currently serve on its board of trustees.
When I announced my intention last September to step down as president of SUNY Upstate Medical University this year, I was looking forward to a sabbatical and ultimately a return to the faculty here in our Center for Bioethics and Humanities. But the request to serve from Case Western Reserve University was one that I could not ignore. It offered me the opportunity to be of use to that university in a time of need. Also, I anticipate that I will find it fulfilling.
I have not abandoned my plans to return to SUNY Upstate and expect to do so after my service at Case Western Reserve University as interim president has been concluded.
Finally, I want to thank you again for your support and good wishes over the past 14 years and for being a part of creating a bright and promising future for Upstate.
Sincerely
Gregory L. Eastwood, MD
President
