Vincent Kuss named executive director of Medical Alumni Association/Foundation at SUNY Upstate

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Vincent Kuss has joined SUNY Upstate Medical University as executive director of the Medical Alumni Association/Foundation. In this position, Kuss works closely with active volunteer boards and senior administration of SUNY Upstate and provides leadership in the areas of fundraising and communication. He also oversees constituent relations with SUNY Upstate's College of Medicine alumni, former trainees of residency and fellowship programs and current medical students and their families.

Kuss will work toward meeting several major goals in his first year as executive director, including the completion of SUNY Upstate's Setnor Academic Building fundraising effort that encompasses a $600,000 campaign to name six classrooms; securing $1.5 million for an endowed academic chair in honor of Patricia J. Numann, M.D., for SUNY Upstate's Department of Surgery; and continuing to provide College of Medicine alumni with the award-winning quarterly publication, Alumni Journal.

His efforts will also be geared to providing an array of services that will help potential and current medical students at SUNY Upstate search for scholarship opportunities. "I hope to develop ways to secure other scholarships to attract the best students throughout the world to SUNY Upstate and to provide them with opportunities so that they have an affordable education," Kuss said.

Prior to SUNY Upstate, Kuss was director of annual giving in the division of institutional advancement at Le Moyne College, where he was responsible for the management and execution of the day-to-day operations of the college's annual fund, which raised in excess of $2 million in unrestricted gifts annually.

Kuss received a master's degree in business administration from Le Moyne College in 2005; a master's degree in higher education from Syracuse University in 2001; and a bachelor's degree in sociology with a minor in criminology from State University of New York at Cortland College in 1995.

He holds memberships in the American Association of Medical Colleges Group on Institutional Advancement; the State University of New York Council for University Advancement; the Association of Fundraising Professionals; the Council for Advancement and Support of Education; and the American College Personnel Association.

SUNY Upstate's Medical Alumni Association/Foundation supports the educational program in the College of Medicine, provides scholarships and programs for medical students and fosters relationships with alumni to the institution through reunion and regional events.

Kuss is a resident of Clay.
