Pompey Lions Club to Host ‘Lions Day’ June 5

Activities to entertain children and adults are planned for “Lions Day,” hosted by the Pompey Lions Club, Saturday, June 5 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Pompey Firehouse, 7407 Academy Street in the village of Pompey. Admission is free. Refreshments and seating will be available. Proceeds from the event will support the Vision 2000 campaign of the University Vision Care & Research Centers of the State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse and other community projects.

Children will be entertained by a magician, face painters and other organized activities. Highlighting Lions Day are an auction, a 50/50 raffle and a Beanie Baby raffle featuring ten different Beanies, including some which are retired.

The auction will consist solely of new merchandise and gift certificates donated by area businesses and individuals. A partial listing of the auction contributors include 84 Lumber, Agway Energy Products, Agway Retail Stores, Alaskan Oil/Pompey Mall, American Stove & FirePlace, Advanced Power (APE), Arnow Jewelers, B.H. Tracy Lumber, Barnes & Noble, BJ Wholesale Club, Black and Decker, Bob’s Big Bend Service, Canastota Auto Parts, Carousel Center, Cazenovia Equipment, Craftsman House, Delphi Fall Golf Club, DeWitt Cleaners, Doug’s Fish Fry, Bill Dowling, Emkay Muench Kreuzer Candle and Empire Vision Centers.

Vision 2000 is a program of the Health Science Center Foundation at Syracuse Inc. It is a comprehensive campaign designed to increase awareness, recognition, and funding for the advancement of ophthalmology research and clinical care at the University Vision Care & Research Centers of the State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse.
