OASIS senior adult educational program to host Open House Oct. 23
Central New Yorkers aged 55 years and older are invited to learn more about the senior adult education program OASIS at “A Taste of OASIS” Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the OASIS storefront located in the lower level of ShoppingTown Mall, DeWitt.
From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the event will feature artwork by OASIS members, and information on OASIS programs, including the Peer to Peer and Oral History programs, and volunteer opportunities. There will also be an exhibit by SUNY Upstate’s Health Information Center. The Peer to Peer service offers peer support for older adults undergoing normal life changes. The Oral History program offers seniors the opportunity to document personal life stories on videotape.
A buffet lunch will be served from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.; Tai Chi and Exerstart demonstrations will be performed from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.; and a musical performance by the OASIS Chorus will be presented from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m.
OASIS is an adult education program offering people aged 55 years and older programs in the arts, humanities, wellness and volunteer service. OASIS is affiliated with the national adult education program of the same name, now celebrating its 20th anniversary. OASIS opened in ShoppingTown Mall in June 2001 and is sponsored by University Hospital and Kaufmann’s, a division of the May Department Stores Co.
