University Hospital physician named fellow of the American College of Surgeons
University Hospital physician Nabeel El-amir, M.D., of Fayetteville has been named a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
El-amir, who received his medical degree in 1989 from SUNY Upstate Medical University Center, is a thoracic surgeon and an assistant professor of surgery at SUNY Upstate.
In 1998 El-amir attained board certification from the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He has a strong professional interest in cardiac and thoracic surgery and holds membership in such professional societies as the American Medical Association and the Medical Society of New York.
The American College of Surgeons is the largest organization of surgeons in the world. To become a fellow of the ACS, applicants must have completed advanced training in their medical specialty and must further demonstrate ethical fitness and professional proficiency. Acceptance as a fellow must be approved by three-fourths of the ACS board of regents.
The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational organization of surgeons that was funded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical practice and to improve the care of surgical patient.
