Mary Ann Shaw receives assistance with her doctoral hood from Upstate Medical University President David R. Smith, M.D., right, and her husband, Kenneth Shaw, during Upstate’s Commencement May 22. Mary Ann Shaw was honored with an honorary doctorate for her lifelong dedication to community service and children’s issues. She was instrumental in the successful fundraising campaign that helped build the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.
