Thomas Donovan named chief financial officer of University Hospital
Thomas J. (T.J.) Donovan has been named chief financial officer of University Hospital of SUNY Upstate Medical University. The appointment was made by Ben Moore, executive director of University Hospital. Donovan had served as interim chief financial officer since September 1999. As the hospital’s top financial executive, Donovan is responsible for overall direction of activities such as budgeting, general accounting, third-party reimbursement and hospital business office operations. In addition, he works with senior management to establish fiscal guidelines, policies and procedures for University Hospital. Donovan has held numerous positions, including director of patient financial services and accounting and reimbursement manager, since his service with University Hospital began in 1981. The 350-bed University Hospital is Central New York’s tertiary care center and the area’s only Level 1 trauma center. The facility recorded more than 100,000 patient days and more than 250,000 outpatient visits in the past year. The hospital is the primary teaching site for SUNY Upstate’s four colleges. Donovan is a graduate of LeMoyne College and an advanced member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, Central New York Chapter. Donovan resides in Westvale, a westside Syracuse suburb, with wife, Diane, and daugther, Kirsi.
