Pediatrician named by governor to state’s Children’s Cabinet Advisory Board
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Steven D. Blatt, M.D., associate professor of pediatrics and director of the general division of pediatrics at SUNY Upstate Medical University and a leading advocate for the health and safety of families and children, has been appointed by Gov. Eliot Spitzer to the governor’s Children’s Cabinet Advisory Board.
The 33-member advisory board will provide input on a variety of children’s issues to members of various state agencies who constitute the Children’s Cabinet.
The cabinet and advisory board will specifically address ways to ensure the successful implementation of the expansion of the Child Health Plus program and identify ways to offer increased access to high-quality pre-kindergarten and early learning programs.
In addition to his faculty appointment at SUNY Upstate, Blatt serves as director of Enhance Services for Children in Foster Care. Enhance provides a wide array of pediatric health care, mental health services and developmental assessments for children in foster care in Onondaga County. Along with faculty from the Syracuse University College of Law, Blatt co-directs the Syracuse Family Advocacy Program, which provides greater access to legal services for patients and their families.
Blatt, a resident of Fayetteville, earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 1983.
