NFL Saints player Jo-Lonn Dunbar visits Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital
New Orleans Saints and Syracuse native Jo-Lonn Dunbar visits with Brady, 11, a patient at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital. Dunbar played football for Corcoran High School before going on to win Super Bowl XLIV with the Saints. Dunbar visited pediatric patients today along with Syracuse natives Mike Hart of the Indianapolis Colts, Tyvon Branch of the Oakland Raiders, Cody Glenn of the Indianapolis Colts and Darius Butler of the New England Patriots.

Harpist brings soothing sounds to patients
She pulls her cart from hospital room to hospital room, helping sick patients feel better, but Dona Wonacott is no nurse dispensing medications. She's a volunteer from the Center for Spiritual Care at Upstate Medical University, and her cart contains a 25-string harp.

Upstate employees volunteer at Juneteenth Festival
Upstate employees volunteering at the Juneteenth Festival got a surprise visit from Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler, who received a 2011 Hope and Healing Award from Upstate’s Faculty and Staff Association for Diversity. Upstate employees volunteered at the festival's Dr. Henry A. Washington Health Pavilion. The Juneteenth Festival is supported, in part, by Upstate Medical University.

Utility work to close hospital traffic circle
Upstate University Hospital will open a temporary traffic circle June 21 as underground utility work for the future the Upstate Cancer Center will cause the existing circle to close. The temporary circle will continue to accommodate patient and visitor drop-off and pick-up as well as express parking.

The new $15 million center consolidates Upstate’s invasive and non-invasive cardiac diagnostic testing into one location, with upgrades in the latest cardiac care technology, including the Stereotaxis Magnetic Navigation System and expanded cardiac imaging systems that provide 3D and 4D views.

Five area women who have died from breast cancer—including three sisters—are among those being honored by the Carol M. Baldwin Fund for Breast Cancer Research through special grants awarded to Upstate Medical University.

Stephen Baldwin announces Ride for Research, to be held Sept. 11
The actor Stephen Baldwin, Upstate Medical University Professor Debashis Ghosh and Elizabeth Baldwin, executive director of the Carol Baldwin Fund for Breast Cancer Research, announce the upcoming motorcycle Ride for Research, to be held Sept. 11. The 60 mile ride, beginning in Syracuse, will help raise money for breast cancer research at Upstate. A 2011 Harley Davidson, in the photo, is being raffled off as part of the fundraiser.

Upstate’s Clergy Day looks at suicide prevention June 16
Upstate Medical University will host members of Central New York’s spiritual care community for an intensive training program to learn effective strategies to help people who are having thoughts of suicide.
