Research Abstract
Our research focuses on the study of new approaches for the prevention and management of diabetes mellitus and its complications. Current projects include: (1) A 5 year randomized controlled trial of 2 active telephone-based treatment interventions, based on the Diabetes Prevention Program model, that are delivered at primary care practices, with the primary outcome of weight loss. (2) The study of the use of telemedicine to improve care and the delivery of health care services to people with diabetes. (3) Participation in the TODAY study (Treatment Options for Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth), a nationwide trial examining different ways of treating 10-17 year olds with type 2 diabetes. (4) Investigations of the effectiveness and safety of new therapeutic agents for the prevention and treatment of diabetes mellitus.
