Research Abstract

A Multi-Center Study of Gullain Barre Syndrome in Children.

Children eligible to be entered into this study will be randomized between two treatment arms. One will use plasmapheresis as the specific treatment the other will use intravenous gamma globulin. While the efficacy of both has been demonstrated and compared in adults, no data from a clinically controlled study exists in children.

Rufinamide as Adjunctive Therapy in Intractable Partial Seizures in Children.

A phase III trial of Rufinamide, a novel anticonvulsant, is being studied in adults and children. Initial studies indicate satisfactory efficacy and acceptable toxicity. At this institution children will be studied as part of a multi center, double blind, placebo controlled, randomized, stratified, parallel-group trial. In addition to the double-blind treatment phase all entered children will be eligible for a long term extension.
