Contributions to the Medical Alumni Parents' FundIf you are the parent, grandparent, or relative of a student at SUNY Upstate Medical University, please consider giving to the Parents' Fund. Contributions are applied directly to the needs of students in a very practical sense. Parents' Fund projects impact students in each year of medical school and were developed from student surveys. Some examples are as follows: 1st year: The White Coat Ceremony and Family ReceptionEach first-year medical student receives a lab coat at a family ceremony during orientation. The "coating" signifies the responsibilities associated with the profession of healing. A festive reception, also funded by the Parents' and Family Association, follows. 2nd year: Harrison's Principles of Internal MedicineEach second-year medical student receives a personal copy of this expensive reference that is invaluable throughout medical school, residency and in practice. Many students are not able to afford this text and it is greatly appreciated. 3rd year: Reference GuidesThe third year begins the clinical rotation phases of medical education. Each student will receive a copy of Maxwell's Quick Medical Reference and the Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia.. These pocket reference guides are indispensable throughout one's medical career. 4th year: Bridge Day Dinner DanceA memorable dinner dance celebration that caps off a day of finale-type events for the class in anticipation of their Residency Match! This final class social event creates lasting memories and friendships that will remain for a lifetime. Watch for info regarding this event for 2008! Contribute Today!Your support is vital to our on-going mission to serve our medical students.
