How Your Contributions are Helping Our StudentsScholarship SupportEach year the Medical Alumni Foundation awards close to $300,000 in fund support through scholarships, professorships, lectureships, etc. A significant amount of the contributions we receive annually support Merit, Financial Need and Leadership scholarships for deserving College of Medicine students. Annual Scholarship Reception for Students and ParentsThe Medical Alumni Foundation sponsors an annual scholarship presentation and reception in order to honor the achievements of our many talented students. Scholarship recipients, their families and the scholarship donors are invited to this event where they are all able to meet and get to know each other. Book Distributions and Class GiftsThroughout their time at Upstate Medical University, the Alumni Foundation opens each academic year by giving our medical students a gift on behalf of the thousands of alumni who graduated from their College of Medicine. The gifts currently awarded to medical students are as follows:
Career Advisory Network and Annual Dinners in Syracuse and BinghamtonThe Medical Alumni Association Career Advisory Network gives students the opportunity to get in touch with alumni and benefit from their experience, knowledge and wisdom. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to find out about a specialty or residency program that they may want to pursue. Along with the Network, the Alumni Association sponsors annual dinners for our students on each campus offering them the opportunity to personally reach out to alumni and faculty. For more information, please visit our Career Advisory Network webpage. Student Stipend ProgramThe Upstate Medical Alumni Foundation strives to promote and afford our medical students educational opportunities during their four years at Upstate Medical University. Students may be reimbursed for actual expenses up to a maximum of $250 per calendar year if they attend a conference, workshop, elective or study abroad. Renovations and Improvements to Classrooms and Academic SpaceEnsuring that students have the best classrooms, labs, studios, study spaces, and state of the art technology continues to be a priority for the Upstate Medical Alumni Foundation. Our students are the future in medicine and we want to make sure they have every opportunity and resource available to them. Rotational Library for ClerkshipsEach year, the Medical Alumni Foundation approves funding to stock the libraries within each Department at Upstate Medical University as part of a rotational library for our students during their clerkship rotations. These books, along with our book distributions help to supplement some of the costs that our students would incur otherwise. Annual PhonathonsPhonathon is an annual program run by the Medical Alumni Foundation where students volunteer their time to call on our alumni in support of the Annual Campaign. Along with training each student, the Alumni Foundation sponsors a dinner, usually catered by Dinosaur Barbecue for each of the five nights our students volunteer their time to call on you to support them. Along with these catered dinners, a $500 participation check is distributed to the class with highest participation rate during our Phonathon nights. Volunteering for Phonathon gives students a chance to give something back to Upstate Medical University knowing that they are making a difference that will support their entire student body. It also allows students to make personal connections with Upstate alumni, giving them the chance to learn about the College's past, hear about different stories and great memories and share in common interests such as career paths. Resident Orientation Tote Bags for Incoming House StaffEach year, the Medical Alumni Foundation welcomes incoming residents to Upstate Medical University with a Tote Bag full of information and various gifts such as Upstate window stickers or key chains. |
