Admissions Policy for Children of Alumni of Upstate Medical UniversityIt is the policy of Upstate Medical University College of Medicine to grant an interview to all College of Medicine applicants who are children of alumni from the Upstate Medical University College of Medicine. Alumni must request that their son/daughter be granted an interview through the Medical Alumni Office. At the discretion of the candidate, one of the admissions officers will meet by phone or in person with the candidate and his/her family to discuss the candidate's probability of acceptance and to discuss alternatives. Please do let the Admissions Office know of such application and your desires, so such processes can occur for your son or daughter. In the event that the candidate is not accepted to our school, and the candidate wishes, one of the admissions officers will offer advice regarding applications, either by phone or at a scheduled pre-advisement session. Where applicable, we will mention that their parents had inquired about their status, and the applicant may wish to inform them about our assistance. Since the applicants are not minors, issues of confidentiality (FERPA) make us hesitant to contact the alumnus or alumna directly regarding the applicant. It has occurred that the applicants did not wish to discuss their status with their parents. The clinical chairs have also been asked to follow a similar policy for all alumni legacies interested in upstate residency programs. Please notify Vincent Kuss of such candidate applications so these policies can be facilitated.
