Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which name to use?

When referring to the institution in its largest sense, you are referring to Upstate Medical University. If referring to Upstate University Hospital, be sure it is only the hospital, and not all employees, or services (like research or colleges.) After the first usage of Upstate Medical University or Upstate University Hospital, you can use Upstate for all further references.

Why does Upstate need all of these rules regarding its trademarks and logos?

Because of the importance of logos, improper use can damage a company’s valuable trademark rights and create confusion among consumers.
