Indoor Track with
Ultra-Sensitive Force Plates
On the second floor of the Institute is an 11-lap-per-mile indoor track, inlaid with seven sets of force plates. When athletes, patients or even wheelchairs exert pressure on these strategically positioned force plates, a computer measures the force in three dimensions. Force plate readings can be combined with motion analysis data from walking or other activities and muscle-force readings to create a precise picture of the elements involved in human motion.
