Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) IRB Course

Getting Started

The CITI Institutional Review Board (IRB) course is to be completed by all clinical staff within 12 months of hire. You will be notified as exempt by the IRB Office if your name is listed on the IRB Protocol.

"All clinical staff" includes:

  • RNs
  • Social Workers
  • Case Managers
  • Physical Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Pharmacists
  • Respitory Therapists
  • Dieticians
  • Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants caring for patients involved in Research studies (outpatient and inpatient areas)

Instructions for CITI IRB Course: Initial or Refresher

CITI IRB web-based education, initially completed within 12 months of hire, is valid for 3 years.

Staff should then complete the REFRESHER COURSE (under question 2, when prompted, select Group 1 Biomedical Investigators and Key Personnel - Including Drug & Device Research) every 3 years unless notified by the IRB Office that their name is listed on the IRB Protocol. Please note: Staff will not be able to access the refresher course until 90 days prior to expiration of the Initial course.

IRB Refresher is completed 3 times (9 years), then employees need to complete the IRB INITIAL (BASIC) COURSE again.
