Willie White is this month's "Upstate Face"

"I enjoy the managerial aspect of training and developing my staff and believe in leading by example.”
- Willie White

For over 10 years, Willie White has made it his focus to provide quality customer service to meet the needs of individuals and departments within Upstate. Prior to joining Upstate, Willie spent over 20 years in the military serving our country. He enlisted in the Army right out of high school and over the span of hisAmerican Flag career reached the rank of Sergeant First Class where he supervised a platoon of 35 soldiers working in the area of logistics. He received various duty assignments throughout his career, which resulted in him relocating to various states on a three to four year basis, as well as visiting countries such as Panama, Germany and Korea when on assignment.

In his current role as Manager for Central Receiving, Willie supervises nine staff members and is responsible for the coordination and delivery of supplies, materials and equipment to Upstate (campus, research and hospital), as well as 39 off-site locations. Approximately, 12,000 packages are delivered on a monthly basis and 90% of these goods and equipment come through the loading docks and are dispersed throughout the campus by Willie and his staff.

When asked what he appreciates most about his position, Willie replied, “I enjoy the customer relations aspect of my job. Providing people and departments with what they need so that they can do their job more effectively is very important to me. I also enjoy the managerial aspect of training and developing my staff and believe in leading by example.”

On his own time, Willie enjoys spending time with his family, working on home renovations, watching football and helping friends and relatives with various projects. In addition, he and his wife enjoy traveling, particularly to the Caribbean countries.  When asked what he would like people to know about him, Willie replied, “I consider myself approachable, always available to answer any questions that arise and willing to serve and assist in order to meet the needs of my colleagues and our organization.”

Willie, we thank you for your dedication to Upstate and honor you, along with all our veterans for their years of service to our country.
