October 2007 Upstate Faces: Kari Fitzgerald, Health Care Teleservices

November 2007—Kari Fitzgerald

As the Data Services Manager for Health Care Teleservices, Kari manages and maintains the call center software and databases. In this capacity, Kari is responsible for upgrading and installing software, providing training to staff members on current call center software, event registration set-up, updating and adding Upstate and community physicians and services, maintenance of referring physician databases, and creating/maintaining the departmental website.  When asked what she likes most about her job, Kari replied, “I really enjoy the variety of my job and learning new things about our software, and troubleshooting. I love being able to offer help to departments as well as the community, and knowing that we make a difference.”

Outside of work, Kari enjoys spending time with her husband Derek and two sons Aidan and Liam.  In addition, as a mother of an autistic son, Kari’s biggest interest is helping Aidan, the Central New York Autism Society of America (CNY ASA) and establishing more community awareness through coordinating events, creating and maintaining the CNY ASA website, fund raising and initiating support groups.  Recently, Kari was very excited to have assisted in providing registration services for the joint University Hospital Margaret L Williams Developmental Evaluation Center & the CNY ASA program “Autism: A Parent’s Perspective” held on November 1st.

When asked what she wants people to know about her, she replied, “I went to school for graphic design and really enjoy working with graphics in my spare time.  I do digital scrap booking and make my own Christmas cards, calendars, invitations and birth announcements for friends and family.  Also, I may appear to be quiet and reserved but I am very passionate and dedicated to my job as well as enhancing autism awareness in our community.”

Kari, we appreciate all you do for Upstate and Health Care Teleservices.  In addition, we admire your passion, dedication and commitment to the CNY ASA and your efforts to raise community awareness regarding autism.
