Jennifer Potter joined Upstate Medical University in 2001. She began her career in Payroll and in 2007 transitioned to the Department of Surgery. In her current role, Jennifer performs many duties that support the business and financial aspects for the Department of Surgery including human resources, accounts payable, contracts, and grant funding. Her position requires her to wear several “hats,” problem solve, and constantly multi-task.
A native of Cincinnatus, New York, Jennifer lived in Hollywood, California for 8 years before relocating to the Syracuse area. While in Hollywood, she worked in the music industry assisting various musicians, such as Mick Taylor from the Rolling Stones, Slash from Guns N’Roses and Mick Fleetwood from Fleetwood Mac. Jennifer relocated back to Syracuse area to be near her family, and thus started a career with Upstate Medical University.
When asked what she enjoys most about her position and Upstate, Jennifer replied, “I consider Upstate a gift; we employ and educate people of substance who make a difference in healing others and have an impact on the Syracuse community. Every day is different, challenging, and this organization is constantly evolving. I have been provided with the opportunity to grow professionally and as well as a person. My hard work, perseverance and adaptability to change are recognized.”
In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys many different interests including, music, traveling, gardening, antiques and watching B flicks in 3D. She loves rollercoasters and is a member of the American Coaster Enthusiast (ACE). Additionally, she is completing her professional studies at Lemoyne College in the Human Resource Certificate Program. When asked what she would like people to know about her, Jennifer replied, “I enjoy people, experiences, adventure and the process of life. I am a person of great substance; I have high aspirations and an appetite for continued growth personally as well as professionally.”
