July 2007

Job Title: Teaching & Research Center Nurse 2

Department: Women’s Health Services—University Health Care Center (UHCC)

Willie Davis began her 38 year career at SUNY Upstate in 1969 as a Nurse's Aide. In 1974 she achieved her goal of becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. While caring for the patients at our Women's Health Services at UHCC, Willie also furthered her education, earning her Registered Nursing degree in 1992. To this day, Willie continues to devote her years of experience and education to the patients in the family planning and infertility clinics.

When asked what she enjoys most about her job, Willie responded that she enjoys caring for her patients and assisting the doctors and residents. An example of Willie's job duties includes assisting in an interventional procedure requiring the use of an electrical probe for the removal of abnormal cells.

Outside of work, Willie loves spending time with her two daughters and three grandsons and is very active within her church. Willie's church responsibilities include being the President of the Nursing Guild, leading the care for ailing members and participating in the wellness program. In addition, Willie is also a member of the Kidney Foundation of Central New York. When asked what she wants people to know about her, Willie replied, "I am always here for people…call me and I'm there to help".

Willie was recommended for Upstate Faces by her supervisor, Patient Services Manager Marge Ostrander. Marge stated “Willie has been an outstanding member of the team at Women's Health Services for over 20 years. She is an awesome co-worker and is the backbone for those of us who feel like neophytes around her.

Willie, thank you for 38 years of service at SUNY Upstate and especially for the dedication you demonstrate every day to your co-workers, patients and our community!
